Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park

Declared a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco, the mountains of Grazalema provide an incredible landscape of Karst limestone, lush valleys, canyons and caves.  Spectacular peaks over 5000 feet high make for an impressive sculptured landscape and together with the green valleys, the park is the home of protected species in the form of the Pinsapo Spanish fir tree, huge colonies of Griffon vultures, bats and eagles not to mention the Spanish Ibex.

Situated mostly in the Province of Cadiz, the Natural Park is less than 2 hours from Malaga airport.

Set in the heart of the Natural Park is the village of Grazalema.  Noted for it’s beauty, the village is famous for it’s cork products, cheese, woollen textiles and Jamon Iberico. The village is now the centre for outdoor activities in the National Park hiding much of it’s troubled history, the expulsion of the Moors, invasion by Napoleon’s forces and more recently the Spanish civil war.

The walks in this area needless to say are very beautiful and varied, from gentle walks through valleys full of grazing cattle, sheep, goats and the famous black pigs that produce the finest hams in the world, to more challenging walks amongst the high peaks.

Many of the walks set out from the village itself, linear walks ending in other villages in the National Park, Montejaque, Zahara, Benaocaz and Villaluenga del Rosario where cool drinks await us in the village bars.

Grazalema village is home to many bars and restaurants together with shops selling local produce, banks, supermarkets and a Pharmacy.
