DESIGNED TO MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS

Spanish Walking Adventures was founded by experienced walkers and travellers, John and Lesley McCartney.

We first began exploring the mountains of Spain when we bought our place in the sun back in 2002. Our home from home was Frigiliana, Andalucia. We fell in love with the village and the area, only our work in England kept us from settling permanently.

Lesley and I are from Lancashire, England where Lesley taught at Blackpool Sixth Form College and I worked for Lancashire Constabulary, policing the streets of Preston and other parts of Lancashire for 30 years. We both retired in December 2011 and moved immediately to Frigiliana.

As years progressed we discovered many more beautiful mountainous areas of Spain...

We then began to concentrate our mountain hiking in the Natural Park of Sierra of Almijara on the edge of Frigiliana immersing ourselves into village life and into the culture and history of this wonderful country.

As years progressed we discovered many more beautiful mountainous areas of Spain, the Sierra de Grazalema, the Alpujarra, the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Extremadura and the Picos de Europa.

In 2015 I began working as a walking guide sharing my knowledge of the mountains and passion for the history and culture of Spain with groups of walkers from across the globe. We have made many friends along the way and have met some wonderful and interesting people on this journey.

Our mission is to share our passion for Spain with you, to walk with you through stunning Natural Parks, to give you the experience of staying in beautiful Spanish Moorish villages and to enjoy Spanish cuisine.

We design your holiday. With our expert local knowledge we select the walking itinerary that we feel best meets the capabilities of your group.  We take you to the area of your choice and share with you our fantastic walks, the history and the culture.
